How a contractor profile works
A profile is your page at locayo.app/fachowcy/your-name: what you do, how far you travel, photos of finished work, reviews, and a number clients call you on directly. Below is exactly what happens along the way — from creating it to the point where the profile starts bringing in calls on its own.
How you create one
Four steps, a few minutes. There are deliberately no “required” fields beyond the ones without which a profile cannot exist.
- 1
Your name and what you do
A company name or your own name, then your specialities — picked from a list or typed in. Those are what clients search the directory by, so it is worth listing everything you actually do, not just your main trade.
- 2
Where you work
You point at a town on the map and set a travel radius. You can also mark that you cover the whole country, or that clients come to you — a workshop, a joinery, a showroom. One does not rule out the other.
- 3
Phone number and email
You give the number clients should call, and confirm your account with an email code or Google/Facebook — no password. This is the only point where we require anything from you.
- 4
Done — you have a link
The profile is live at its own address straight away and you can send that link to anyone. Description, photos of your work, opening hours and badges you add later, when you have a moment. None of it is required for the profile to start working.
The principle is simple: the profile should exist immediately, not after an hour of filling in forms. A profile with just a name, a trade and a town is already useful — you can send the link to a client who asks “do you have somewhere I can see your work?”. Everything else is addition, not a precondition.
What a client sees when they land on it
The layout is the same for everyone — the only difference is how much you put into it.
The biggest element on the page. The client signs in once (email code or Google) and calls straight away.
A town and a circle for your travel radius. It means you stop getting calls from the far end of the region.
The strongest evidence you have — and the only one a description cannot replace. It is the first thing clients scroll through.
Collected after closed jobs. You can reply publicly under each one — including the unfair ones.
Liability insurance and trade certificates, if you have them and want to show them. Our moderators check the documents.
If you do not enter any, the section simply does not appear. We never fill in “standard” hours for anyone — invented hours are worse than none.
A workshop, a joinery, a showroom, a car wash. This adds to your travel radius rather than replacing it — plenty of contractors do both.
Whoever prefers writing can message you from the profile. Only signed-in users can send messages, so it does not turn into a junk inbox.
Why the number is not in the page source
The question contractors ask most often, and the one thing on a profile that works differently from how it looks.
A phone number is the most valuable piece of data a contractor has. Put straight into the page source, it gets harvested within days by bots crawling the web and ends up in the databases that cold callers dial from. So here the number is not in the source at all — it is served only when a human deliberately clicks “Show number”.
- The number appears neither in the page source nor in the structured data that search engines read.
- Your number and email are shown only to signed-in visitors — signing up takes seconds with an email code.
- A revealed number hides itself again after a while, so it does not sit on screen in a forgotten tab.
- The number of reveals from a single IP address is rate-limited.
- In your dashboard you see how many times someone revealed your number — a real measure of interest, not “impressions”.
Note what is missing here: we are not hiding the number from you or from the client in order to sell the contact. Portals that live off selling leads have to hide the number, because it is their product. We earn from promoting profiles, so a visible number costs us nothing — and that is an advantage a competitor cannot copy without breaking their own business model.
How a profile gains visibility
Two separate routes: the directory, where people search, and the search engine, where everyone else does.
A client enters a trade and a place, and the results account for your town and the travel radius you declared. Local comes before travelling.
Your profile also appears where a client has just got stuck — after posting a job, or when nobody has responded to it. Conditionally: if there are no contractors in that town, the block does not render at all.
The share button generates ready-made text with the link — to paste into a local group or a message. The link preview shows a card with your name and town, not a bare URL.
The profile enters the index once it passes a content threshold — two of four signals: description, a review, photos, specialities. An empty profile stays out of the index on purpose.
That threshold is sometimes read as a punishment; it is the opposite. Services that push thousands of empty profiles into search end up with an index full of pages with nothing to read — and the search engine stops trusting the whole domain, including the profiles that are good. We would rather submit fewer and better ones. Your dashboard tells you exactly what to add to clear the threshold — no red asterisks, no nagging.
- 1. Three to five photos of finished work. They do not need a photographer — a phone is fine, as long as the result is visible rather than your toolbox.
- 2. A description written for a client, not for an office. What you do, since when, for whom, and what you do not do — that last part saves both sides time.
- 3. All of your specialities, not just the main one. People search with phrases like “skimming”, “tile removal”, “door fitting” — if it is not listed, neither are you.
- 4. The first review. The easiest way is to ask someone you have already worked for — you send them the link, that is it.
Afterwards — the dashboard and upkeep
A profile needs no maintenance, but a few things are worth knowing.
- You edit the whole profile in one place, in tabs: profile, portfolio, documents.
- The profile adviser assesses your specific entry and tells you what to improve — it does not tick off a checklist.
- You can see how many times your number was revealed, how many reviews and responses you have, and how many jobs you closed.
- Your number and email go only in the fields meant for them. Typed into the description they are blocked on save — that protects your number from bots, it is not there to make life harder.
- A profile does not expire and needs no renewal. If you are not taking work, you can hide it temporarily.
Name, trade, town and a number. Description, photos and hours you can add later.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a tax ID or a registered business?
No. A profile can be created by a company with a tax ID, by a sole trader, and by a private individual with no registered business at all. We do not handle your accounting, so we have no reason to demand documents.
What does a profile cost?
Nothing. The description, photos of your work, reviews, service area and a visible number are all free with no time limit. We take no commission on jobs and charge nothing for a client calling you. Paid options are profile boosts and plans with higher listing limits.
Will my phone number end up with spammers?
The number is not in the page source, so it cannot be scraped by a bot reading HTML. A client reveals it with a deliberate click, and reveals from a single IP address are rate-limited. It is not a guarantee — no visible number ever is — but it filters out the overwhelming majority of automated harvesting.
Who can see my number?
Only signed-in visitors. Signing up takes seconds with an email code or Google. The number hides itself again after a while so it does not linger on a background screen.
When will my profile show up in Google?
Once there is something on it to read. A profile enters the index when it meets at least two of four conditions: a real description, at least one review, at least three photos of finished work, at least three specialities. Below that threshold the profile works normally and you can send people the link — we simply do not submit it to search engines, so as not to clutter the index with empty pages. Your dashboard says plainly what is missing.
How is this different from portals that sell contacts?
There your contact is the product: the portal collects a client enquiry and you pay for the mere chance to answer it. It therefore has to hide your number, or it would lose the thing it sells. We earn from promoting profiles, so a visible number costs us nothing — which is why we can show it.
I already have a website. Why would I need a profile?
The profile sits inside a directory where people in your area are looking for a contractor — your website does not. It also looks after itself: it does not expire and needs no hosting or domain renewal. Plenty of contractors keep both, and send the profile link in messages because it loads faster on a phone.
Can I delete my profile?
Yes, at any time and without giving a reason. You can also hide your number or suspend the profile’s visibility if you are not currently taking work.
